Salt Lake City approves $7M loan to build boutique hotel at The Gateway

Salt Lake leaders on Tuesday approved a $7 million low-interest loan to help finance an eight-story boutique hotel meant to "re-energize" The Gateway and preserve the historic Union Pacific Depot.

Jazz star Donovan Mitchell now has a bridge named after him

In a ceremony that took place Tuesday afternoon, the pedestrian bridge at the 100 S. Rio Grande Street corner of The Gateway — a mere two blocks from the front entrance to Vivint Smart Home Arena — was named in Mitchell’s honor, and a graffiti-style mural of him commissioned by The Gateway and the Jazz was unveiled.

Donovan Mitchell Bridge, a pedestrian walkway over 100 South, was unveiled at the Gateway Mall. Artists painted a mural of Mitchell’s likeness on the bridge and turned the crosswalks on the intersection below into an homage to the Jazz.

If things at The Gateway seem a little dreamy lately, it's by design. Utah Arts Alliance's new immersive pop-up art exhibit, "Dreamscapes," allows people walk through clouds, crystal caves, an "Alice in Wonderland"-like forest, a bathtub full of stars and giant letters visitors can climb up and slide down.
